Elite Training Led By Former D1 Basketball Players

Elementary, Middle and High School

At D1 Athlete Academy, we believe the most effective training combines personalized coaching with competitive, game-like experiences. Every athlete has unique strengths, weaknesses, and goals, which is why we tailor our coaching to each individual while still creating opportunities to compete against other athletes.

Our training sessions are intentionally structured as small groups of 4–6 athletes for one hour. This format allows athletes to receive hands-on instruction, individualized feedback, and skill development while also being challenged in live, competitive situations that translate directly to game performance.

Head Coach Ella Wanzer believes that a significant portion of an athlete's development should occur in contested environments. Skills practiced without pressure often don't carry over to games. By incorporating competition, decision-making, and game-speed repetitions into every session, athletes develop the confidence, toughness, and ability to perform when it matters most.

Here's how each session looks:

SKILLS

20m
SKILLS

The first 20 minutes of each session are dedicated to skill development. Skill  development is customized to address the specific needs of the athletes in the group, ensuring every session delivers meaningful improvement. Depending on the day's focus, athletes will work on key areas such as ball handling, shooting mechanics, finishing at the rim, footwork, dribble moves, scoring techniques, and overall offensive skill development.

20m
DRILLS

Our technical mastery systems focus on specialized mechanics and D1 level drills that modern scouts prioritize.

20m
DRILLS

The next 20 minutes of each session focus on skill application. Athletes take the skills developed earlier in the workout and apply them through game-speed, contested, and semi-contested drills. By immediately transitioning from skill development to game-speed application, athletes are able to reinforce proper technique, improve confidence, and develop the ability to perform those skills when it matters most; real game situations.

20m
COMPETE

Gain insider knowledge on the collegiate recruitment landscape, from building your profile to capturing scout attention.

20m
COMPETE

The final 20 minutes of each session are dedicated to competition and game play. Athletes compete in live situations such as 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, and game-like scenarios designed to apply the skills developed throughout the session. By training in competitive, high-pressure environments, athletes learn and are coached to perform at game speed while improving their decision-making, offensive awareness, defensive instincts, and overall basketball IQ. This is where skill development meets game performance.
